Prayer and the Word Acts 6:4 “But we will give ourselves - TopicsExpress

Prayer and the Word Acts 6:4 “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer and the ministry of the Word.” (NKJV) November 18, 2014 Unthankful People Scripture Reading of the Day: Psalm 14:1 – 7 Scripture Verse of the Day: Psalm 14:3 – “They have all turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is none that does good, no not one.” As a person reads this Psalm, they cannot help but see our society in its words. It’s a sad state of affairs that David is writing about. Men do not and do not want to naturally seek God. When we look at our society, this is more the case than ever before. This week I read a news story about a high school group that wanted to start a Bible club, but an atheist group filed a law suit to stop them from doing this. Another school is trying to take the words “…under God…” out of the pledge of allegiance. This is just a couple of examples of people saying, “…there is no God…” As we come up to this thanksgiving season, people are thinking about the meal of the day, seeing football games, watching parades, and going shopping. In themselves these things are not bad, but most people leave off the best part which is thanking God for all He has done for us this past year. One of the things about our society today is that we see all the things we do for the most part as of our own creation. We forget that all we have, the ability we have to earn a living, and the health we have to work all comes from the Lord. No preacher, Sunday school teacher, or any other concerned person; can change the heart of a man. Our hearts can only be changed by the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death…” This is eternal separation from God. The verse goes on to say, “…but the gift of God is eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” When we accept Jesus as our own personal Lord and Saviour, He gives us a new heart, and we learn how to be thankful again for all He does for us. We need to learn this fact, and apply it tour lives today. Prayer: Lord, cleanse our hearts, and give us hearts of thanksgiving.
