Prayer for Malawi: If there is no medicine, allow us to bury our dead March 09, 2014 BNL Times Online No comments Prayer for Malawi: If there is no medicine, allow us to bury our dead By Reverend Keith Banda They went to their own government hospitals, but medicines were given them not. And there they wept in pain, and there their guardians wept too. They wept because there were no medicines. But their tears dried up a little, when they heard from government officials, that soon there would be some deliveries of medicines. They were comforted that those Azungus whom were chased 50 years ago, have planned to donate some medicines. Alas, their hearts were broken again, when they heard the scandal called Cashgate. And they cried louder this time around. They wanted to cry even louder than before, but their voices could not let them. They were not only sick, but hungry and poor too. Though they were created in your image Jesus, their bodies were deformed with suffering. Like your suffering in Isaiah 53:3, “He was despised and rejected by others. A man of suffering and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces, he was despised, and we heard him in low esteem.” And their bodies perished in government hospitals, without any mercy. That mwikho thing happened in our mortuaries. Your holy temples were filled with worms, distorting your holy image. And their bodies were held in low esteem, in mass graves. Mass graves are common in warlike situations, yet we have claimed to be a peaceful nation. Hunger follows natural disasters, yet every year we have food shortages. May we this Lent period reflect on broken politics. May we feel the pain of a nation at war, and a country labouring under the unbroken cycles of mostly manmade economic disasters. Let those aspiring public offices not be motivated to campaign to plunder public coffers. If they can’t give us medicine, we pray Lord Jesus, let them just give us our dead to bury in your honour, soil to soil, spirit to Spirit. Amen.
