Pre & Post Waxing Instructions Before your appointment 1. Gently exfoliate & moisturise the day before your treatment. This will prepare your skin and remove dead skin cells, ensuring optimal result & better waxing experience. 2. In order for waxing to be effective the hair should be no shorter than a grain of rice (approx ½ cm). For most people this means around 7 -10 days worth of growth after you have last shaved. 3. Avoid hot bath, steam room, sauna and overexpose the area you are having waxed to the sun 24hrs before your appointment. 4. Please advise the therapist if you are taking Roaccutane, using steroid creams, had any microdermabrasion, skin peels or are using any products containing AHAs. 5. Keep make up to a bare minimum to none for facial waxing. 6. Do not use oil or any other moisturizers on the area to be treated on the day itself. 7. In general our waxing service will bring minimum to no discomfort. Every person reacts differently to waxing, as we all have different sensitivity levels. Different areas of the body will hurt more than others on certain people. If you are really concerned about pain, about a half hour before waxing, you might want to take an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen. This can help in two ways: it will provide some pain relief and protect you from minor swelling. 8. Particularly for women. Their skin is more sensitive during their monthly cycle, so try to get the wax done at least three days before or after menstruating. Caffeine, menstruation and pregnancy increase skin sensitivity. 9. Lose your self-consciousness. Don’t worry about feeling embarrassed. There’s nothing the therapist have not seen before. The less anxious & the more you relax your muscle, the better your experience will be. 10. Breathe. It can be tempting to hold your breath, but breathing in and out helps reduce the pain. Take a deep breath in when the wax goes on, and then breathe out when your therapist gives it a pull. After your appointment It’s normal immediately after your wax you might experience a little bit of redness & a prickly heat type rash. These symptoms should subside over the next 24-48 hrs due to a histamine reaction. As the hair has been removed at the root, this leaves your follicles exposed & temporary more susceptible to bacteria. This tends to occur during your first waxing experience, as the hair bulb at the base of the hair is larger. Hence, the number one consideration is to ensure your follicles stay bacteria & infection free. This means: 1. Keep the waxed area clean; do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions or other products to the area for 24 hours. Avoid heat & friction during the next 24-48 hours. 2. No hot baths or showers (cool to lukewarm water only). 3. No saunas, hot tubs, steam treatments or tanning. 4. No sport, gym work, swimming in chlorinated pool or other exercise. 5. Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands. 6. Wear clean, loose fitting clothes as this prevents any unnecessary friction & minimize ingrown hair. 7. Always wash your hands before applying any product. To prevent ingrown hairs: Exfoliate & moisturize regularly. You may notice a small amount of re-growth after a few days or so. It can take up to 4 treatments for your hair to get on a growth cycle that gives best results. Hair needs to be at least ½ cm long before it can be successfully removed by waxing; please do not shave between your appointments. To maintain your smooth appearance, we recommend regular waxing every 4-6 weeks.
