I pray we reach a solution real soon before more innocent children - TopicsExpress

I pray we reach a solution real soon before more innocent children die trying to come to America the land of opportunity! Cynthia, I wanted to give you an update on where things stand in our fight for meaningful immigration reform. Despite the clear benefits of immigration reform and the support of roughly 3 in 4 Americans, it became public this week that House Republicans indicated to the President that they would not take action on legislation to fix our fundamentally broken system. One entire year we’ve waited since the U.S. Senate passed a bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform bill -- and for an entire year House Republicans have failed to act. To put it simply, we are deeply disappointed. As you may have seen, the President announced he will be speeding up a review process to see what actions he can take through his existing legislative authority to fix some parts of our broken immigration system. While this is a necessary step that we support -- brought on by the inaction of House Republicans -- I want to be very clear that the only way to solve our broken immigration system and create a system that works for our families and our economy is through a permanent legislative solution. What is clear is that we aren’t likely to get a bill for the next few months. That is greatly disappointing, but we’ve gotten this far because we’ve kept fighting -- and we’re only going to win if we keep fighting. That’s why I want to thank you for your steadfast support for immigration reform. Every call, message, and meeting with members of Congress over the past year has made a difference. No one can deny the majority of Americans support fixing our broken immigration system. Moreover, while we’re disappointed with the failure of House Republicans to act, we’re proud and thankful for the progress that all of us together have been able to make so far. I also want to reiterate how important it is to have you on our side moving forward. Our goals at FWD.us remain the same as they have always been: to get meaningful immigration reform passed and implemented into law. Whether it was passing the bill through the Senate, getting over 250,000 individuals to reach out to Congress, or pushing this to a point where its clear what needs to happen -- even if it hasn’t happened yet -- we’ve made real progress on one of the critical issues of our time. The Fourth of July is a reminder of what it means to be an American: we are a nation of immigrants, brought together from across the globe by the drive to make our lives better and our country better in the process. For generations the United States has been a welcoming nation for those seeking a better life. It is and always will be our source of strength. But our immigration system doesn’t reflect these values. Passing immigration reform will allow a new set of entrepreneurs, students, professionals, and families to realize their American Dream. Our economy will be expanded, millions of American jobs will be created, and we’ll treat the 11 million undocumented immigrants already contributing to our communities fairly. So what’s next? We’re going to redouble our efforts and prepare for the next push. We’re the closest we have ever been and -- while we haven’t gotten this done as quickly as we would like or as our country deserves -- we need your help. These are all things worth fighting for. Our work is not yet done. I hope you’ll join us. Thanks, Todd Schulte Executive Director, FWD.us
