Pre/Post Workout Foods The food that you eat before, during and after a workout is important for both comfort and performance during exercise. Energy foods including bars, drinks, gels and other easily digestible carbohydrates can help prevent the distracting symptoms of hunger during exercise and keep you from depleting your energy too quickly. Because glucose is the preferred energy source for most exercise, a pre-exercise meal should include foods that are high in carbohydrates and easy to digest. You should eat 60-90 minutes before you workout and eat within 60 after your workout. Here are a few suggestions for some pre/post workout foods to eat! Pre-workout Yogurt, deli meat-chicken, turkey, lean roast beef, hard bolied eggs, smoothies, low fat string cheese and whole wheat crackers, protein shake, apple with peanut butter Post-workout Whole-grain cereal or oatmeal, with milk and fruit (banana would be good), eggs and whole wheat toast, protein shake, lowfat chocolate milk
