Preaching the next 3 weeks on Psalms and Gratitude. This thought - TopicsExpress

Preaching the next 3 weeks on Psalms and Gratitude. This thought occurs to me and hopefully remains todays take-away though it wasnt the one I originally planned exactly. Praise and Gratitude in Hebrew song is a choice and not a circumstance. These songs are not generally sung from a place of great ease or idleness. They are sung as a way of framing the living of our life in a counter-intuitive perspective of what is actually happening. They are sung from slums and hurricane-wreaked devastation. They are sung from jobs that grind us down and places of questioning discernment. And they are not rose colored. They speak pain in the middle of their beatitude. They do not say all is well with my soul, but they still find and focus in on that which is well as a source of sustenance for the everyday journey. They seek hope and hold fast to it with gratitude - and it is for this reason that they praise.... that they even can give praise. Because their hope is a tenacious guest, companion, and friend.
