Prep Spotlight for Week 11 Guntersville Wins 100th Meeting Of Guntersville-Albertville Series Guntersville recorded its first 10-0 perfect season since 1955 by defeating arch rival Albertville 21-16 Friday night in the 100th meeting between the Wildcats and Aggies, the longest running high school rivalry in Alabama. The historic rivalry grabbed the AHSAA Prep Spotlight for Week 11 of the 2014 prep football season. Coach Lance Reese’s Wildcats head into the Class 5A state playoffs this week against Moody (5-5) Friday night. Albertville, coached by Cliff Mitchell, finished its season 4-6. The rivalry began in 1914 with Albertville winning the first game 27-0. Guntersville, holding a 49-45-6 edge in the series, has outscored the Aggies 1,589-1,450 – just over a point per game in the long series. Clarke County and Thomasville completed its 100th meeting this year as did Clarke County and Jackson, according to Ross Wood of the Clarke County Democrat. The Alabama High School Football Historical Society, however, only lists 99 games in each of those two series. Leading the Wildcats was Jordan Bentley with 23 carries for 124 yards and a touchdown. He returned an interception for a score and David Smith also recovered a fumble for a touchdown. Lee Menefee and Ernesto Cordova each had 8 total tackles for the Wildcats defense and Jackson Menefee had seven stops. Other top performances reported in Week 11 included: RUSHING TYLER RENFROW, VINA: Rushed for 319 yards and four TDs and added a fifth score with a 32-yard fumble return as the Red Devils beat Holy Spirit 46-28. REED BLANKENSHIP, WEST LIMESTONE: Had 16 carries for 321 yards and touchdowns runs of 63, 16 and 78 yards in a 34-32 win at Ardmore. He also had an interception on defense. DEKARLOS BILLINGSLEY, SCOTTSBORO: The sophomore running back rushed 52 times for 259 yards and one touchdown in a 13-6 overtime loss to Madison County. Billingsley had all his team’s carries but one on the night. The 52 carries is a new Scottsboro single-game record. Billingsley also set a Scottsboro single-season tandard for most rushing attempts with 275 through week 11. Billingsley has rushed for 1,588 yards on the season, the fifth best single-season mark entering the first round of the playoffs, and has scored 20 touchdowns. AUSTIN STIEFEL, FYFFE: Had 252 yards rushing on 18 carries with four touchdowns as the Red Devils (10-0) closed the regular season unbeaten with a 59-28 win over Plainview. STEFAN CALDWELL, ELBA: Rushed for 225 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries, pacing unbeaten Elba to a 48-19 win over Opp. Caldwell scored on runs of 3, 80 and 2 yards in the first half, helping the Tigers to a 28-6 halftime lead, and added a 53-yard TD run in the third quarter. BRANDON BAYNES, TALLASSEE: Ran for 184 yards and three touchdowns in a 20-14 victory over Elmore County to finish the regular season with over 2,300 yards rushing. He scored on runs of 1, 20 and 49 yards and also completed 3-of-4 passes for 55 yards. TYLER REACH, RED BAY: Rushed 16 times for 256 yards and four touchdowns as Red Bay beat Marion County 47-6. CAMERONE BLANKS, COTTONWOOD: Accounted for 231 yards and four touchdowns on offense on just 13 touches and added 12 tackles on defense in a 40-20 Bears win over Wicksburg. Blanks rushed for 131 yards and a TD on 10 carries and caught 3 passes – all touchdowns – for 100 yards. TERENCE HUMPHREY, COLUMBIA: Carried 37 times for 285 yards and six touchdowns (1, 89, 15, 15, 14, 13 yards) in a 42-29 victory over Central-Florence. SHAKEITH TYES, CALERA: Had 34 carries for 291 yards and three touchdowns while throwing a 56-yard touchdown pass in a 39-28 victory over Chilton County. CHRIST AUSTIN, OAKMAN: Rushed 20 times for 247 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-12 win over Berry. Austin had touchdown runs of 4, 58, 26 and 2 yards. DANT’E REESE, HANCEVILLE: Ran for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries in a 22-21 comeback win at Good Hope. The senior’s 11-yard scoring scamper and subsequent 2-point conversion late in the fourth quarter put the Bulldogs up for good. AUSTIN HARRIS, FAIRVIEW: Rushed for 164 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries in a 34-27 comeback on the road at county-rival Vinemont. The junior, who had missed three games with an injury, scored the game-winner on a 42-yard tote. PASSING REID RIALS, SATSUMA: Was 14-of-23 passing for 246 yards and two TDs and rushed 11 times for 101 yards four TDs as Satsuma nipped Chickasaw 49-48. He added a seventh score with a 39-yard punt return and sealed the win on defense with a late interception. CHANDLER RIDGON, CHICKASAW: Finished 21-of-29 passing for 309 yards and five touchdowns in the 49-48 loss to Satsuma. He also ran for 162 yards on 21 carries. BRADY POLSON, BOB JONES: Completed 17-of-25 passes for 338 yards and six touchdowns (9, 3, 37, 20, 77 and 76 yards) in a 62-45 win at Austin. BLAKE HAWKINS, FLORENCE: Was 23-of-34 passing for 199 yards and two TDs and also 128 yards rushing on eight carries to lead the Falcons past Huntsville 50-20. DAULTON HYATT, ARAB: Threw for 309 yards and a touchdown, and ran for 98 yards and a score in a 35-14 win over Moody. MATT MARQUET, CHELSEA: Completed 13-of-19 passes for 262 yards and a touchdown and added 17 carries for 120 yards and two more scores in a 34-20 victory over ThompsonJON AVERY, CARBON HILL: Completed 13-of-17 passes for 322 yards and five touchdowns in a 52-6 victory over Lynn. His TD passes covered 27, 45, 47, 21 and 69 yards. TANNER NELSON, COLLLINSVILLE: Threw four touchdown passes, including two to Jordan Leath, in the Panthers 46-18 victory at Valley Head on Thursday. His scoring strikes covered 65, 68, 65 and 50 yards totaling 248 yards passing just on his TD passes. HUNTER GRANT, WEST END: Was 5-of-9 passing for 100 yards and rushed 29 times for 136 yards with the game-winning TD as West End beat Appalachian 30-27. PASS RECEIVING MICHAEL CHISEM, MINOR: Caught eight passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-9 victory over Pinson Valley. LAWTON DOROUGH, HOMEWOOD: Caught four passes for 147 yards in a 24-12 victory over playoff-bound Tuscaloosa County. He hauled in an 80-yard touchdown pass and also added a 49-yard kick return for Homewoods eighth straight win. REESE HARBISON, GOOD HOPE: Caught five passes for 120 yards in a 22-21 loss to Hanceville. The freshman’s longest reception covered 61 yards. WESLEY BURNS, BOAZ: The senior caught eight passes for 128 yards in the Pirates come-from-behind 12-7 win over Sardis. Burns now has a school single-season record 58 receptions. WILL WRENN, WEST POINT: Caught three passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns and snagged an interception in a little more than a half of a 52-21 home win over Priceville. The senior covered 27 and 66 yards on the scoring receptions. DEFENSE JARED STEWART, FULTONDALE: Grabbed three interceptions as the Wildcats beat Oak Grove 30-26. DAKOTA NEWSOME, FYFFE: Recorded 21 tackles and recovered a fumble as Fyffe beat Plainview 59-28. FISHER WILLOUGHBY, COLD SPRINGS: Picked off a pair of second-half passes, broke up another and made five tackles in a 39-13 road win at Holly Pond. The Eagles’ 8-2 regular season record is their best since 2003. COLLIN DAY, COLD SPRNGS: Compiled seven tackles, including two for loss and a pair of sacks, in a 39-13 road rout of Holly Pond. The senior drove the Broncos back a combined 28 yards on his two sacks. MASON BROWN, GLENCOE: Had 16 tackles and a key sack late in the game to help the Yellow Jackets post a 17-10 win over Cleburne County JOEL BROCK, SAND ROCK: Picked off two passes and caught a 48-yard touchdown pass in the Wildcats 42-0 victory over Cedar Bluff on Thursday. TYLER SMITH, SLOCOMB: Earned 10 tackles and blocked a punt in the Red Tops 37-7 win over Geneva County. CODY BLACKWOOD, CLEVELAND: Had two interceptions, returning one 37 yards for a TD, added three pass break-ups and four tackles in a 36-6 victory over Southeastern. SPECIAL TEAMS COLEMAN TAYLOR, ST. JAMES: Booted a 33-yard field goal on the final play to give the Trojans a 20-17 victory over Marbury. TRISTAN SKINNER, WEST POINT: Made a 37-yard field goal and all seven of his extra-point attempts in a 52-21 home win over Priceville. KAINE YATES, HANCEVILLE: Blocked a punt and recovered a late fumble inside the Bulldogs’ own 5-yard line in a 22-21 thriller over county-rival Good Hope. KAINAN SMITH, GOOD HOPE: Returned the second-half kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown and caught three passes for 44 yards and another score in a 22-21 loss to Hanceville. He made a diving catch for a spectacular 35-yard grab down the right sideline to set up his second touchdown. COBY NEENAN, NORTHVIEW: Hit field goals of 48 and 27 yards and was 3-of-3 on extra points in a 41-34 win over Charles Henderson. He also punted five times for a 43.4 average (217 yards). QUINTON SHAW, R.C. HATCH: Scored on a punt return and a run in a 68-20 at Autaugaville that clinched the first winning season in school
