Presented testimony from my client in court today in a case involving a work-related hernia from heavy, repetitive lifting. Employer, once they got wind of his injury, made up an allegation that he stole something, resulting in his termination. The emotional toll of being fired and having been accused of theft has resulted in depression as well. Unfortunately, many employers will try to find ways to terminate an injured worker-they frequently see them as damaged goods and a liability. The good employers will try to accommodate the restrictions and not sweep the injury under the carpet but, instead, address it and get the appropriate medical help facilitated.
