Speaking shortly after receiving the cheque, President Koroma expressed profound gratitude to staff and management of the company, saying that the Ebola virus is now with us in the country. He called on all to join in the fight against the disease, and welcomed the response from the company. He said the country has had the outbreak from May and so far 85 people have survived which is a clear indication that if people are honest in identifying those with the virus on time and about the existence of the virus then it can be cured and the lives of Sierra Leoneans can as well be saved. President Koroma noted that whilst government and partners are making progress in combating the spread of the disease “we should as well intensify surveillance of contact persons as we cannot treat Ebola victims in our homes except we take them to the appropriate institutions for observation and for proper treatment to be fully effected.” President Koroma also said that government is now left with no option but to fight the spread of the disease by tracing those with the virus and taking them to isolation centers as well as intensity sensitization on prevention and cure. Earlier, the Managing Director of the company said as partners in development they were donating the sum of Fifty Million Leones towards combating the Ebola virus. Meanwhile, President Koroma also received Family Tree of the Holy Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) as a gift from Saudi government presented by the Sierra Leone Hajj delegation ahead of this year’s pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Mecca. Accepting the gift on behalf of the nation, President Koroma described the gift as recognition of government’s efforts towards the promotion of Islam in Sierra Leone. He observed that Sierra Leone has always increased the number of pilgrims to the Holy land of Mecca, and expressed hope that this years Hajj will be more successful. Earlier presenting the delegation, the Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Alhaji Moijueh Kaikai said few weeks ago he led a delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where they had already prepared for the forthcoming Hajj to the Holy land. Minister Kaikai intimated that President Koroma was offered the gift in the form of the Family tree of the Holy Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) by the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in recognition and appreciation of his strides in promoting religious tolerance in the country. Formed part of the gesture from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was the sum of $10,000 (Ten Thousand Dollars) which Alhaji Kaikai presented to President Koroma for the feeding of Muslims in the Holy Month of Ramadan. The President consequently handed over donation to the Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray. Explaining the reason for the gift, a member of the delegation Dr Ahmed Ramadan Jalloh said it is because of the role played by President Koroma in promoting Islam in Sierra Leone.
