President: Law on special order of local government in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions should become the basis for peace in the Donbas President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is confident that the adoption of the Law on special order of local government in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions should become the basis for peace in the Donbas. It was stated by him when he commented on the adoption of the given law by the Verkhovna Rada after laying flowers to the memorial plaque of fallen journalists. “Ukraine crucially needs peace and I am personally responsible for the implementation of the Peace plan. Anyone who wants war is not my like-minded person,” Petro Poroshenko said noting that the entire people of Ukraine strived for peace. “If you put away political colors and address people you will see that this is what they want,” the Head of State said. The President reminds that the issues of decentralization of power and provision of larger authority to the regions were and are the main items of the Peace plan. “Those who live in Donetsk and Luhansk regions must have an opportunity to elect their new government. We must find reconciliation with this government and bring peace and harmony to the state. It is my path,” the Head of State noted. “We didn’t allow destroying fragile truce and dragging Ukraine into a criminal war. Today, we have made it more possible that people in the East will stop dying. It is the main thing,” Petro Poroshenko added. Answering the question whether he was confident that all the parties would comply with the Law, the President said: “We must make our step towards this and ensure that the opponent will also make them. If we do not do this, they will not act as well”. president.gov.ua/en/news/31236.html
