• President Obama Doubles Down on Immigration Failures: Delays Executive Action and Ramps Up Jailing of Families aila.org/content/default.aspx?docid=50010 AILA President Leslie Holman reacts to the delay on executive action, saying The attempt to deny protection to desperate refugees, and the delay on immigration action, make absolutely no fiscal or moral sense, and are built on questionable political assumptions. More bad news on Immigrant front - while it is well known that politicians, usually before the elections, have a tendency to exaggerate and give false promises, this time President Obama has gone a bit too far. It is simply wrong to keep on promising or posting various deadlines or “red lines” and similar in Syria, Iraq and now on the domestic immigration front, just to break them few months later, usually using blaming his opponents (Putin, Asad, Republicans, whomever he can find) as scapegoats for his bad promises or even worse decisions. While we are generally against, unilateral, executive action on immigration front, (as we still strongly believe that a true, smart, and comprehensive immigration reform must be a product of a grand compromise and bargain with the Congressional Republicans), making false promises to immigrants and breaking them just few months later is even worse for the President and just leaves both immigrants and us, immigration practitioners, with more questions than answers.
