President Obama Wishes to ANA President Barack Obama sends a personal letter from the White House to all attending the Association of Nepalis in the Americas (ANA)convention in Tysons Corner, Virginia that had its inauguration on Friday, July 4th. President Obama commends the Nepalese people for getting involved in different respectable fields in the US. He states in the letter,From contributing to the arts to expanding our understanding of the sciences, promoting business, and serving with courage and distinction in our Armed Forces, Nepali Americans have enhanced all aspects of our society. Loudoun County Democrat treasurer Hari Sharma read the message to the audience. United States Senator Mark Warner also sends a letter with a cordial tone to Nepali people in the convention. In his letter, he said, We are fortunate to have a strong and vibrant Nepalese community in the Commonwealth. The contributions of the Nepalese community have been extraordinarily valuable to the spirit and drive that make our Commonwealth and this nation great. The 2014 convention that lasts from July 4th to July 6th had its formal inauguration conducted Friday morning by its chief guest, Nepalese actress, UNFPA goodwill ambassador and social activist, Manisha Koirala. The famous actress who does most of her work in Bollywood lit the paanas and formally inaugurated the convention. In her brief speech, Ms. Koirala reminded the Nepali youth in the US community to embrace the Nepali culture. She said, Remember to always go back toour routes. Other speakers during the opening ceremony included ANA founder Dr. Hari Sharma, ANA convener Hemanta Shrestha, founder of Empower Dalit Women of Nepal Dr. Bishnu Maya Pariyar and member of President Obamas Advisory Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islanders, Shekar Narasimhan, who gave their warm welcome tothe guests and members of ANA.Despite the election process, convener Mr. Shrestha wants the Nepali community to help run the convention just as smoothly. He said, I urge all our members and attendees to keep in mind the main objective of the ANA. Towards the end of the ceremony, interim President of ANA Mr. Tsewang Sherpa lama expressed ANA achievements and activities over the last three years. Also, Co-convener Mr. Laxman Pradhan expressed his thank-you note to all speakers, participants and sponsors. The ceremony recognized important members of the Nepali community and deemed them ANA heroes. ANA recognized social activists Ms. Bishnu Kumari Thapa and Saroj Prajapati, Guinness World book record holder for most words spelled backwards in a minute,Krishna Pandeya, and 15 time Mount Everest climbers Dorjee Lambu Sherpa also was awarded as ANA Hero at that moment .
