President Uhuru Kenyatta seems to be on a fishing expedition to snatch former Prime Minister Raila Odinga of his ODM strongmen and women. This is after he poached former National Assembly Speaker, Kenneth Marende, just two weeks after he appointed former Kajiado MP and ODM strongman, Joseph Nkaisery, to Cabinet. The President quietly appointed Marende to lead the peace talks in war-torn Central Africa Republic. His appointment comes barely a week after he was elected as a board member of Kenya Power thanks to Uhuru/ Ruto’s Government that owns over 50% stake in the corporation. Marende will lead the ongoing negotiations in Central African Republic under the auspice of the African Union (AU) and is being assisted by Retired Lieutenant General, Njuki Mwaniki. Marende’s assignment comes months after he expressed willingness to work with Uhuru/ Ruto’s Government and the move will certainly affect ODM and CORD, considering he was supported by ODM to be Speaker in 2007. According to political analysts, Marende’s appointment is part of Uhuru’s strategy to raid Raila’s strongholds with intent of winning their support ahead of 2017 where he intends to jealously defend his seat.
