Press Release Seminar of The Sons & Daughters of The Highlands of Eritrea Date: April 1, 2014 Place: Donkeystreet 1991 Time: 14:00 - 18:00 hours sharp You can reach the area using only donkeys from the central station of Hadish Adi. Ask for the Donkeystreet and every highlander knows it. Starting from April 1 all the Eritrean people of the Highlands are welcome to participate in a seminar for the highlanders only. The agenda of the conference is to discuss the problems of the Eritrean highlands and how to address them. The problems of the people of the highlands are different in, among others, nature, in color, in religion, in temprature and altitude. Well how do we delinate who is from highland? For the time being we have used the following criteria. The following persons might consider themselves as people from highland: 1. Those who consider Tigrigna as their mother tongue, 2. Those who consider the Eritrean Tewahdo as their religion, 3. Those who have been living in the following geographical area of Eritrea: Hamasien (Logo included), Seraye, Akele-Guzay (without Saho/Asawirta) including their farming areas in the lowlands...To avoid confusion, a detailed map of Eritrea that demarcates highland from lowland will be available at the entrance gate of the seminar, 4. Those who are from the lowlands but who are living in the aforementioned areas for the last 40 years uninterupted. And those whose Adi and Awdi verified using modern day DNA-technology. At the entrance gate of the seminar security people will be equiped with these instruments to keep infiltrators at bay... 5. Clothing and accent are also two very important criteria, Additional information will be released when necessary. Let us reiterate here that we as organisers of this seminar dont have the intention to discriminate between Eritreans. But we believe that the problems of Tigrigna highlanders are totally different than those of lawlanders. Take for example the wonderful camel. During the good old days, the camel and its owner used to visit the capital city of Eritea, Asmara, to sell some wood and charcol. But after independence the camel became the symbol of lawlanders and highlanders. It even speaks, writes and reads Tigrigna. In every government document you see the camel. In our passports you see the camel. The camel is everywhere! Was it not for the guns, tanks of PFDJ, the donkeys, the symbols of highland Eritrea would have revolted long time ago and chased away the camle (and...) from all highland areas; like in the book/film of Animal Farm of George Orwell. We want the donkey back! All highlanders were fed on the back of the donkey. Grains were transported to and from Asmara on the back of the donkey. The donkey is angry. In The USA the donkey is the symbol of the Republicans and in Eritrea we reduced him to... Speakers and their topics: 1. Introduction by an Elephant: In the past I used to tell them that I am a lawlander and that we cant live together with the highlanders. But after I studied the history and intermingeld with them, I found out that they are truly nationalists. Their contribution in the armed struggle and in the struggle for justice is immense. I sometimes wonder what we would have done without their contribution. 2. Grey and black colored Donkey: how can we regain the lost privilage? Even during the struggle it was not (ONLY) the camel (Ishnet Maere Kumet) who contributed to the struggle, but we, the donkeys played our pivotal rol. Without us and without the kebessa, the Eritrean struggle would have collapsed...God and refer to the statistics; how money donkey have lost their precious live while the camels crossed the border with The Sudan in droves with a pretext: we will come back after doing buisness. 3. Monkey will also speak since this animal is contending that it belongs to highland and lawland: Eritrea is one and not to be divided in two or various ethnic groups. 4. Fox & Serpent: We dont want to talk about it! We criss-cross not only Eritrea but we go to the Sudan, to Djibouti, to Tigray. Division is evil We have heard that camels are going to come to protests; so please be in time. After 14:00 PM the doors will be closed. to constact us: donkeys@eritrea
