Press Release Washington DC, USA As the 100-year anniversary of the Genocide perpetrated against Assyrians during WWI approaches, the Assyrian Nation is once again facing a dire national situation. Caught in the sectarian violence that rages in the Middle East, the defenseless Assyrians are facing uprooting and forced deportation from their homeland at the hands of the extremists. We call upon all Assyrian Americans to mobilize and join us on the Assyria Day, July 1, to call members of the U.S. Congress, informing them of the atrocities committed against our people in Iraq and Syria, especially in Nineveh Plain in northern Iraq, and demanding material support to avert this major humanitarian calamity and political disaster. The United States government and the international community have a moral and humanitarian obligation to defend, protect and improve the conditions of Assyrian people in the Nineveh Plain, their ancestral land. As Assyrians, it is our nationalistic duty to mobilize and inform our representatives in the U.S. Congress to pay attention to our peoples situation and take immediate and substantive action to establish a province for our people. We demand that the U.S., Iraq and the United Nations address the long-overdue Assyrian demand for self-governing on our ancestral lands within a unified and secular Iraq and preserve the Nineveh Plain for the Indigenous Christian Assyrians and other minority groups in the area.
