Press Statement: Life PNG Care giving 40 orphans and unfortunate children a chance to go to school this year 2015. Saturday 17th January 2015. BACK TO SCHOOL ORIENTATION DAY FOR STRONGIM PIKININI EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN IN 2015. Homelessness and unattached life of a street kid is an emerging phenomenon in our urban centres. But these group of unfortunate children need equal opportunity to go to school. The government must have a way to help this group of children to have a chance to go to school and be a better citizen one day. They are our children and our future. Our nation’s future lies not on any resources, but on human resources. This group of children are part of our future generation and workforce and it’s about time we have to preserve this generation. I see that this group of children must benefit the fruits of their nation. They are born with purpose and destiny, ‘The Potential of our children is the most precious resource - we must handle them with care for our future and the future of the nation depends on them. If we don’t preserve a generation there won’t be a better future Life PNG Care has a vision to give Love, Hope and Care to this generation through our Strongim Pikinini Education Program (SPEP). We have assisted 17 unfortunate children last year. They are attending various schools in NCD, and this year we will send 40 unfortunate children to school. We have registered a total of 125 unfortunate children but we are unable to sponsor them all to school this year. Due to the fact that we have limited resources, we are able to send 40 children only. This will cost LPNGC K70,000 for this school year. The education costs are school project fees, school uniforms, stationaries, daily bus fares, lunch and other education related expenses. Apart from this school expenses we have operating costs and other costs to run the entire operation of LPNGC. This group of children feel that they don’t have a hope and a future, however LPNGC wants to give a child an equal opportunity through our education program to have a chance to go to school. We never know we might have doctors, engineers, teachers, lawyers, accountant etc.. coming out from this group. Late WANPIS was part of this group of children but unfortunately he left us. According to Joe Sapia an orphan (age 14)..said they live and move every day in the name of survival. They don’t think about going to school because no one can send us to school, or where can we live to have clean water and a have a shelter. Sometimes people see us as we have no hope and future, some even feel afraid to talk to us. They ignore us every day when people see us…I have been homeless for 7 years. I was on the street at the age of 7 and become a homeless after my Parents died. I have never been to school. Teacher Collin took me to his home last year 2014 (April), and I will attend school this year 2015. I see that I have missed school and I and very excited to go to school. I will never miss this opportunity given. I now know that I hope and a future…..says Joe. We have the same problem here of children who need to be given a safe haven, either because they have been abandoned - we have kids both boys and girls who sleep on open area in nights or near old houses.. wherever, our children are suffering and the problem of children who are abandoned, or orphaned, or living in extreme poverty with abusive and dysfunctional families is very great in PNG now. In all these social problems LPNGC believes in a child’s future. They have potentials and gifts locked up in and through our SPEP we want to give them (each Child) a chance to go to school. We have a vision to continue this drive from 2020 and beyond. The purpose of organising the back to school orientation for unfortunate children dated Saturday 17th January 2015 was to gather all the orphans and vulnerable children who are benefiting under our SPEP to know each other and have a time of fun before school start. Our program and activities on that day was registration of new kids, introducing the SPEP to visitors, games, and BBQ. The day was full of fun and excitement. It our first back to school orientation for year 2015, and we will continue this in the coming years. We thank UMW for sponsoring the event with T-Shirts.
