Pretty cool. I can see why so many brass players are totally into DCI. But there will always be something about it that troubles me, an I honestly cant say exactly what that is!!. Is it the competitive elements? The uniformity within and between the groups? A lot of fantastic pro players and educators have corps experience in their pasts. So I dont think it really hurts someone pursuing a career as a musician although as a pro you will rarely, if ever get to play this way at any other time. If you try to, you will be looked at very strangely!! Every few years I find myself in a minority, experiencing mixed feelings about corps and the culture of it all. I want to support any kind of music someone feels is important, but this direction seems to favor the visceral over the aesthetic, especially on any individual level. But some of these groups like The Blue Devils really are amazing in a unique way and the coaches do incredible work making sure the brass sections are tight, in tune and balanced. Are there any current or past corps participants out thete who would like to try to explain away my concerns for me??!!
