“Pride Vs. Humility” (Proverbs 18:12) “There are only two kinds of people in this world, they are the proud people and the humble people. Today we will study about the destruction that pride can give to us and the rewards and promotion that humility can give us. Our text is found in the Book of Proverbs chapter eighteen and verses twelve; “Before destruction a mans heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.” The definition of the dictionary about pride means, a high inordinate opinion of one’s own dignity, importance, merit, or superioirity, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc. Pride focuses on self; it is self-admiration, self-glorification, self-regard, self-respect, self-trust, self-worth, and self-sufficiency. The meaning of humility in the dictionary means, the quality or condition of being humble; modest opinion or estimate of one’s own importance, rank, etc. Sinabi ito ng aklat ng Isaiah; “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” Galit ang Diyos sa mga mapagmataas; “But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” These are the signs of humility: 1. Ready to be corrected. 2. Can say sorry. 3. Submissive. 4. Can appreaciate other people. 5. Servant of all. 6. Not easily hurt. 7. Concerned about others. What is humility? Humility is having the right view of ourselves. We need to understand that humility is the mother of all virtues. If we are humble, then all other good character traits will easily be born. The book of Proverbs says that before honor is humility. “The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom, and humility comes before honor.” (Proverbs 15:33) May payo din dito sa Apostle Peter; “Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. “Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you.” 1 Peter 5:5-6) May nakalaang gantimpala at promotion sa lahat ng nagpapakababa. We must also understand that the anointing seeks a humble person. The more we are humble the more we become anointed. “This what Psalms is teaching us; It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.” If we want to stay anointed, we must stay humble.”
