Prime Effort of SDF Government in boosting up Eco-Tourism. Success in opening old silk route One of the prime agenda of the SDF government was the reopening of the old Silk route or rather the Nathula Pass. Route Being opened from LINGTAM - Phadhamchen - ZALUK - Gnathang - Kupup - Tsomgo Lake Onward, which is a very beatiful route also called as Old Silk Route.The dedicated approach of the state government under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Pawan Chamling towards the matter finally led to the reopening up of the Nathula Pass on 6 July, 2006. No one could have even imagined that the trade between the two economic giants of the world, India and China could have a trade relation through a much disputed Nathula Pass. The opposition party tended to make a mockery out of the Nathula issue when the present government of SDF first approached the Central government with the demand of reopening of Nathula Pass. But the SDF government had no reason to back on the matter before approaching the central government as such the SDF government was confident that it had prepared every ground before approaching the Government of India with the proposal of the reopening of the trade route. The present government under the SDF brought a sense of unity, among the masses of the state, besides that it also eased the anti-national feelings among the public, which was cropped by the earlier government. The government successfully established a peaceful environment in the state. Such a drastic change in the state since the commencement of the SDF government compelled the Union Government to rethink on the issue of reopening of Nathula Pass, as such the Government of India wanted a break through in the establishment of healthy relation between the bordering country, especially with reference to China for which Sikkim was the best and last option left . Thus all these developments has given Sikkim a chance of proving itself that it can act as a bridge of peace and tranquility to bring the nations into a table.
