Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and her Cabinet can be charged (By TTnewsflash Reporter) FORMER Attorney General Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj said Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and her Cabinet could face charges if they do not abide by the findings of an independent report from the Golconda to Point Fortin Highway Review Committee. Maharaj is now calling for an investigation into whether the PP Government is guilty of misbehavior in public office after failing to adhere to the recommendations regarding the Mon Desir to Debe segment of the Point Fortin Highway. He added that there should be a special unit appointed by the Acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams and the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, to investigate the matter. On Saturday night, Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner challenged Local Government Minister Dr. Suruj Rambachan to g ahead with legal action against him. Warner had accused Rambachan of helping a friend to get over $15 million from government for a property worth just over $7 million. The value represents compensation to make way for the Point Fortin Highway Project. However, the National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NIDCO) said that the claim Warner spoke about on his political platform is still in the early stages of the settlement process and no compensation has been paid to date. NIDCO assured on the same note that the process for the acquisition of properties by private treaty will be transparent. The company added that it will obtain valuations of properties by an independent professional Valuer.
