Princethorpes annual Pink Day in support of Breast Cancer Care has become the stuff of costume legend with boys dressing as crayon morphs and girls as flamingos. You could see it as just a bit of end of half term fun but beneath lies the horrible truth that many pupils have had their lives touched by this terrible illness. A sea of pink saw staff and pupils joined together sporting costumes of the spectacular and the downright bizarre. Inflatable wrestlers lined up with giant whoopee cushions purchasing lattes in the Sixth Form refectory whilst, rather surreally, a tall boy in a luminous crop top could be seen in the new Sixth Form Resource Area silently staring at a computer screen. For the rest of the College Friday 17 October was Non-Uniform Day. A relaxing end to a busy term with pupils donating a small amount of cash to both Mary’s Meals and Breast Cancer Care UK. The hope was that over £1500 would be raised to support both charities. Head of Sixth Form Mrs Margaret Robinson added,“Today has become one of tradition and celebration. Our Sixth Form body led the way organising cake sales and laying on pay-as-you-go entertainment in the Sixth Form Atrium during the lunch hour. Pupils were informed through assemblies and tutor periods of the effects of breast cancer and the need to fund further research. As always the events today have shown our students’ generous spirit in action.”
