Prior to my being hired back home in Chicago, I worked for the ABC-owned station in Raleigh-Durham from 1987-1993. Larry Stogner was the main anchor. He was/is a gifted journalist. He was my drinking buddy after work at a club called WFUN durung my single days. He was a terrific mentor to me when I took on the added duties of being both weatherman and early afternoon anchorman. Larry retired tonight after 40 years on the business. He has ALS--Lou Gherigs Disease. Many of you will remember this horrible disease took the life away from John Drury as well. This is his farewell from WTVD which aired tonight. It breaks my heart to see such a vigorous and beloved man facing this horrible disease. Whether you know Larry or not--I urge you to consider this, as I have, as a reality check about whatever hardships you may face. To Larry Stogner, all I can say is Thanks for the company my friend.
