Private Mail to Page ----------------------------------------------- Hi, I was wondering if you could post this letter to the public which I wrote today. Unfortunately due to my personal circumstances I am not willing to go public with this, but I would really like to have this said. thanks very much, I hope you can post it today in support of the protest this evening at tallaght garda station To Ireland The protests in Tallaght last week got so much bad publicity. People of Tallaght have been called abusive and violent thugs, dissidents, and kidnappers by our politicians and media, but I can assure you that is not the case. It only takes a few to bring the tone of an event down. But tonight at 6:30 in at Tallaght Garda station there will be a Women only Silent Candle Light Vigil and this protest will show that Tallaght can and will protest peacefully. For me, this protest is about more that the Water Charges. It is about the treatment of people by the Garda during these protests, it is about paying motor tax, yet no investment has been spent on the roads, it is about years of regressive budgets. Although a Professional, my personal circumstances have placed me in “The System” and I know only too well, how this system does not protect the vulnerable. I have a court ordered protection order. An order that has been issued to Tallaght Garda Station by the courts to protect me, but when I have had the necessity to call for help and protection, the Garda station does not have the resources and will not put the resources in to protect me. On one particular occasion when I called a squad car to my home, for the car to arrive 4 hours later, I was told by a the Garda, that they only had 1 car on duty for Tallaght that day, and that car was used to catch a robber. This robber will be convicted and I was told directly by this Garda, that they will not follow up with my complaint as they “will not get a conviction”, although under Section 17, my protection order should have ensured the person in question was arrested. Now compare this to the protest in Tallaght last week, the Garda were very present, in my opinion, overly present, to protect who? The Government that are running a system into the ground. We have a health care system that is a shambles, we have a family court system that needs total reform, we have Tulsa which are failing children daily and we have the Garda, for whom Minister Fitzgerald says the Inspectorate “report raises serious concerns”. Should the Government not fix the systems we have in place, get these systems working for the people before they introduce a new water charge? I was going to pay my water charges, I do believe that we need clean water fit for drinking and clean rivers and lakes for amenities and I also understand the thinking behind the government on using Irish water to create off balance sheet financing for the country. I am an accountant and I get the need for “Ireland Inc”, I understand off balance sheet financing, but does everyone else? and with the current systems in shambles, why should they care? I am protesting tonight because I witnessed first hand the presence of Garda in Tallaght last week. I was not part of the protest then but I will be tonight. I was going to pay my water charges, but we already have systems that I am contributing too with my taxes and yet I can’t get the services I have paid for. I can’t get the protection of the Garda when I need it, Many are waiting for medical procedures and are waiting too long in the system, children are being failed by the courts and Tulsa and I will not pay more till I get what I am already paying for. I hope to see you all supporting peaceful protests and I hope to see Ireland get back on track Kind Regards Disheartened citizen of Ireland
