Private firm helps MGB in geo-hazard mapping Zamboanga City – A private mining company will assist the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Mines and Geo-Sciences Bureau’s (MGB) conduct geological hazard mapping activities in Sibuco town in Zamboanga del Norte October 8. Atro-Mining Vitali Inc. (AMVI) has offered to dispatch three of its geologists to assist the MGB conduct geo-hazard mapping to determine areas that are hazardous and vulnerable and could endanger the lives and properties of people there. AMVI’s participation was formalized early this week with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) among AMVI Zamboanga officer-in-charge Eric Pasiagian, Sibuco Mayor Norbiderie “Bong” Edding, and MGB Regional Director Alfredo Relampagos. by Nonoy E. Lacson October 4, 2014 AMVI is a holder of a mineral production sharing agreement (MPSA) and operates Vitali Iron Ore Project with mining tenements covering most of Upeer Tagpangi section of Vitali village here. Pasiagian said MGB had earlier requested mining companies nationwide to assist them in the conduct of the geo-hazard mapping surveys since mining firms have enough geologists working with them. Pasiagian said that even in the absence of their three geologists, they can still comply with the strict guidelines imposed on them by the national government on mining. During an information education campaign (IEC) on mining laws and geo-hazard, Relampagos, admitted that his office had only five geologists, with three of them just working on a contractual basis. “There are 72 cities and municipalities in the Zamboanga Peninsula region, and we have very limited time to comply with the order, so we have tapped the services of eight private mining companies to help us, Relampagos said. For his part, Edding assured all participating technical people of their utmost security while conducting geo-hazard mapping activities in his town. Edding also pointed out that Sibuco is peaceful contrary to rumors and added that his town is now easily accessible with the concreting of the roads from Limpapa, Zamboanga City to Sibuco. Edding also reported that a multi-national company intends to establish a 12-megawatt power plant in his municipality. “My vision is to make Sibuco business friendly, so everybody can exist in a co-equal manner,” Edding continued.
