Eggplant is a mixed bag of quality and price so select ones that are firm, heavy in comparison to size, dark and shiny skin with a fresh green stalk. The skin must have a uniform, rich purple colour, free from scars. Strawberries are still the bargain of the week with plentiful supplies. You will pick up some other well priced seasonal fruits such as pineapples, navel and valencia oranges, pears, imported kiwifruit and most apples, although expect to pay more for pink ladies and gala varieties. Expect to pay more for raspberries, grapefruit, Australian and imported grapes which are of mixed quality, honeydew, rockmelon and mixed quality mangoes. Passionfruit, seedless watermelon and limes are expensive.
