Profile: Fally Ipupa Fally Ipupa is a singer, songwriter, dancer, philanthropist, guitarist and producer from the DRC. He was inspired to pursue music at an early age, singing in the choir and progressing to various small groups in Kinshasa. In the late ‘90s Fally joined a group known as Latent Talent, with whom he recorded an album. His career went from strength to strength and in 2006 he released his first solo album, entitled “Droit Chemin”. The album went on to sell over 100 000 copies. He has since released two more albums. In April 2013 he signed a contract for three albums with Universal, the largest record company in the world. He participated in the MTV Africa All Stars with national and international artists, including Snoop Dogg; and in May 2013 performed for 15 000 spectators at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban, South Africa. Having worked with more than 35 artists from Africa and abroad in numerous collaborations, he has certainly left his mark as a sought-after artist. His collaborators include G-unit artist Olivia from the U.S.A, Youssupha from France and D’banj from Nigeria. The awards and recognition have also come pouring in with over twenty nods for different music awards. His wins include the Kora Award for Best Central African Male Artist in 2008; an MTV Africa Award in 2010 for Best Francophone Artist and a 2013 AFRIMMA Award for Best Male Artist. His philanthropic work includes the project Do Agric, which fosters the development of agriculture in Africa. Earlier this year, he travelled to Washington to attend a US-Africa summit. US president Barack Obama invited 47 African leaders to the summit, which aimed to strengthen ties between the US and Africa. In April this year he appeared in the music video for Cocoa na Chocolate - a song about food production and sustainability in Africa.
