Project 365 Day 78 Fighting terrorism is not unlike fighting a deadly cancer. It cant be treated just where its visible - every diseased cell in the body must be destroyed. ~ David Hackworth The purpose of terrorism lies not just in the violent act itself. It is in producing terror. It sets out to inflame, to divide, to produce consequences which they then use to justify further terror. ~ Tony Blair Why has it not been explained to us in detail why the terrorists hate us? What is the exact reason they hate us? What is it that we do that makes them want to kill every single one of us? Can there be a compromise? ~ Joseph J. Nolfo I found that last quote on a little piece of paper in your wallet after you passed away. I remember reading it with tears in my eyes because it obviously bothered you enough to write it down, perhaps to research later. I decided to use that quote today in light of James Wright Foley, the American freelance reporter/photojournalist who was beheaded 22 months after his abduction. I watched his parents on television, knowing the horror of those first days following the death of a child. I watched his parents, grateful that the worlds eyes were not upon me in those first few days. I watched his parents, grateful that I did not have to find the words to address the world, not only at such a terrible time in my life, but also under unspeakable circumstances. I watched his parents and I was grateful that I did not lose you to a terrorist act, while the whole world looked on. I watched his parents and I saw the pride they had for their son, their hero. Then I remembered the little piece of paper in your wallet, and I too felt proud. I felt proud that you had such a big heart. I felt proud that you worried and wondered about the roots of terrorism. I felt proud that you sought answers. I felt proud that you sought compromise.
