Promised Land School service project: Greetings all! We have a marvelous opportunity to be involved in a great service project. There are several ways to be involved. The Adopt A Native Elder project involves raising funds and/or transporting food and supplies to help people living on the Navajo reservation. Children and families may devise ways to raise money to purchase the foods that the elders will most appreciate such as clean water, corn meal, fire wood or yarn for their weavings. There is a program in Park City during the first week of November. Families may attend and give their donations. The Navajos present a wonderful program in which they share their culture. They also bring their beautiful hand crafts and woven rugs to sell. Groups can adopt one of the Native Elders, correspond and help with his or her needs throughout the year. Also, in late September or early October, families may join volunteers in a journey to the reservations. Vehicles (preferably large vehicles) are needed to transport donations from farms to the reservation. This involves five days from Tuesday to Saturday. This is a great opportunity to meet these marvelous Native people and come to a first-hand knowledge of their lifestyle.
