Prompted by Andy K raising the subject of open spaces in the Sutton Common area, I thought Id share this photo taken by my mum of an incident in Rosehill Park in April 1949. I posted this photo on the Old Sutton group page not having a clue of where it was taken or what the circumstances were, but within a couple of hours with some research and first hand memories from some very helpful and knowledgeable group members, the mystery was solved. This is a De Havilland DH-89A Dragon Rapide. It made an emergency landing one Sunday morning on a row of football pitches that were by the railway in Rosehill Park. It came to a stop at the by-pass end of the park, the pilot managing to avoid nearby allotments in the park. No-one was hurt. .
