Prophets BirthDay faahagakurun hudhayo SallALLAHu taaalaa alaihi wasallam THE HOLY PROPHET MOHAMMED sallALLAHu taaalaa alaihi wasallam COMMEMORATED HIS OWN MAWLID Proofs From The Hadeeth The Holy Prophet sallALLAHu taaalaa alaihi wasallam commemorated his own Mawlid by Fasting Syedna Qatadah Al-Ansaari radiALLAHu taaalaa anh narrated that the Prophet sallALLAHu taaalaa alaihi wasallam was asked about fasting on Monday and he replied: It is the day on which I was born and on which I received the Divine Revelation. ( Muslim) This hadeeth is clear evidence of the importance of the commemoration of the Holy Prophet’s sallALLAHu taaalaa alaihi wasallam birthday through worship. And Allah subhaanahu wa taaalaa the Supreme has commanded in the Holy Qur’an to follow his example – “Indeed following the Noble Messenger of Allah sallALLAHu taaalaa alaihi wasallam is better for you – for one who is confident of Allah subhaanahu wa taaalaa and the Last Day, and remembers Allah subhanahu wa taaalaa much. [Surah Ahzab 33:21] It is also important to note that the Holy Prophet sallALLAHu taaalaa alaihi wasallam fixed a certain day, every week, for offering this gratitude. He did this for other matters also e.g. visiting Quba Mosque, visiting martyrs’ graves at Uhud, etc. So if Muslims “fix” a certain day, this too is part of Sunnah. Al-Hafiz ibn Rajab al-Hanbali, in his book Lataif al-maarif, explaining this hadeeth of Muslim said, It is good to fast on the days that Allah subhanahu wa taaalaa honoured and favoured his servants.
