Proplyd in the Orion Nebula... A proplyd is a protoplanetary - TopicsExpress

Proplyd in the Orion Nebula... A proplyd is a protoplanetary disk, which can be defined as a rotating circumstellar disk of dense gas surrounding a young newly formed star, a T Tauri star, or Herbig Ae/Be star. And this is exactly what you are seeing here, captured by Hubble. Yes, this is potentially a planetary system in formation around a star. Imagine looking back at us 4.6 billion years ago. We probably would have looked a lot like that. Very special... The Orion Nebula star-birth region is 1,500 light-years away, in the direction of the constellation Orion the Hunter.
