Proposal for Reservation of Paharis mooted by Congress : Nizami SACH NEWS Sgr/Jmu, Aug 17: Appreciating the decision of Omar Abdullah led coalition government for giving reservation to Pahari speaking people, the joint secretary state Congress Salman Nizami Sunday said that the proposal was mooted by the Congress party during its coalition with Peoples Democratic Party. “It was a proposal mooted by the Congress party during its coalition government with PDP. But due to some issues with its former ally, the government could not complete its six years tenure and the proposal remained pending,” said Nizami in a statement issued here. He said the Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad now directed his ministers to stress the coalition partner for the approval of proposal to ensure that Pahari and OBC class people will be benefitted from the reservation. He said recently Azad in a meeting with Panchs and Sarpanchs assured them all the possible steps would be taken by Congress party to ensure that the reservations would be granted to the downtrodden sections of society besides the honorarium to the grass root level representatives. He said the Congress will also stress for the reservations to the Pahari people in Public Service Commission exams in an order to ensure their adequate representation in government. “Azad Sahab has always advocated that the people from backward sections should be uplifted and provided required opportunities to grow. That is why he moved his proposal in last government with PDP. But unfortunately he couldn’t approve it after he resigned before completing his tenure,” said Nizami. He said the Chief Minster announced the reservations only after there was a proper consultation with Congress ministers. “The Chief Minster is he heading the coalition and by virtue of that he announced in press conference. Otherwise it was a demand proposed by Congress which has larger representation in Pahari areas,” he said.
