Prosecutors Tuesday bring to court their much-criticized legal case against two Myanmar men accused of killing two British backpackers on Koh Tao with three witnesses who, reports say, didn’t witness that much. Three Myanmar nationals are expected to appear at Samui Provincial Court for pre-trial interviews. One of the three is Muang Muang, friend and roommate of defendants Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Htun, who allegedly raped 23-year-old Hannah Witheridge and bludgeoned to death her and David Miller, 24, on a secluded stretch of Sairee Beach in the early hours of Sept 15. Despite police hanging part of their controversial decision to arrest Mr Lin and Mr Htun on the witness testimony of Mr Maung, his testimony is not expected to reveal anything: Mr Maung told the Myanmar embassy he didnt see anything, as he went home before the murders occurred, the Democratic Voice of Burma website reported (dvb.no/.../third-burmese-said-he-did-not.../44856) Oct 9. When the two suspects returned to their shared quarters, nothing seemed unusual, Maung reportedly said. Likewise, a second witness - a woman who works at a resort near the crime scene - is expected to simply state she heard the sound of guitar playing coming from near the spot where the Britons were killed. The defendants are well-known on the Surat Thani province island for playing guitars on the beach. Prosecutors also plan to take testimony from another Myanmar man whose details and report was not disclosed publicly. Regional Public Prosecution 8 deputy director-general Tawatchai Siangjaew said the two defendants will be present at the court tomorrow and have had lawyers arranged for them. Mr Tawatchai, head of the prosecution team, said the court granted the prosecutions request to conduct pre-trial witness interviews was necessary as regular legal proceedings take a long time and the witnesses are foreign nationals who might return home. Mr Tawatchai said the police have yet to send more evidence as requested by the prosecutors, but he expected it next week.dvb.no/news/third-burmese-said-he-did-not-witness-murder-burma-myanmar/44856
