Prosecutors in Papua New Guinea have begun laying formal charges against seven people over the sinking of the Rabaul Queen in January last year. Pacific Correspondent Campbell Cooney reports. png rabaul queen In January last year the Rabaul Queen passenger ferry sank, killing over 150 people, Papua New Guineas biggest ever maritime disaster. Prosecutors have now formally laid charges of manslaughter and allowing an unseaworthy vessel go to sea, against seven people, including the owner of the shipping company, the ferrys captain, and officers from PNGs National Maritime Authority. PNG police Chief Inspector Benjamin Turi says the trial process will begin soon. //End of the month and begining of next month. Main one in Kokopo will be the 31st of this month, October.// The charges come after a commission of inquiry into the sinking last year, followed by a police investigation.
