Protazio Ayigihugu has fallen. He was a colossus in matters legal. - TopicsExpress

Protazio Ayigihugu has fallen. He was a colossus in matters legal. When I was starting out on my legal career, his was one of the names to provoke awe and respect that I learned quickly enough. I used to read about him in the local dailies, almost every day. He used to take on very high profile cases. This was a very uncertain time of Milton Obote Two. People used to disappear forever on flimsy excuses. So any one who stuck out his neck, especially a criminal lawyer, where a great many of the defendants were rebels dubbed as terrorists, had to be a very brave person. Ayigihugu was such a person. Others included Sam Kalega Njuba and to a less extent, Paul Sebalu. All these men have died in the last six months. But behind them they have left good seed, many men and women who will continue to keep the touch of the legal profession in Uganda burning! I can say that these men did not live in vain!
