Protest at Naveed Abad, Khumani Chowk in Bemina, Srinagar: Srinagar June 22: The residents of Naveed Abad, Khumani Chowk in Bemina, Srinagar blocked the Srinagar-Budgam road and chanted anti-government slogans today as they are facing hardships because of the water scarcity in the area. “Since past one month we are without water and we have to travel two kilometers by foot to fetch water,” the protestors said. They said they were without water for many days but government is not doing anything. We are facing a lot of problems as PHE has not been able to restore water supply to our area from last several days. Water is not a luxury, but a necessity, how can they expect us to live without it. We don’t have water to drink or cooking purposes, alleged a protestor Mohammad Ashraf Dar. “There is not a drop of water to drink as taps have run dry. On Saturday, we visited the office of Executive Engineer Public Health Engineering with the request to restore supply to the village but to no avail,” he added. (GNS)
