Protesters slam Oprah over comments that they lack ‘leadership’ washingtonpost Oprah has come a long way, but one never recovers from growing up in Mississippi. She is a rehabilitated women but still suffers from the name calling and the animosity of being a fat black girl. She is in love with the illusion of the powerdemonstrated by Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, and other noble Black Americans who allowed racist white people to beat our children and spit in our Grand Mothers faces. It is the denial of the alternative Malcolm X and other Black activists posed to America. She is a dedicated soldier to protocol, measured responses, and good intentioned White Liberals. The idea that young people with cell phones could organize in 2015 catches her off guard. Her heart bleeds over Bill Cosby, and the legacy of so many of our respected leaders who were men and women of honor but also victims and casualities of their own egos. Leadership is no longer vertical, it is pervasive. The internet and social media gives all of us equal standing in demonstrating our leadership and analysis of our future civil and human rights movement. Oprah needs to as the late John Henrik Clarke said bury the man and continue the plan. I love Oprah, but I love the young people around this country more. They need all the encouragement we can give them.
