Protests against power tariff hike in Bhalesa, Gandoh: Serpanch Association Bhalesa Threatened to Block National Highway, Kashmir Time News By Firdous khanday: Gandoh:21:12:2014 The unprecedented hike in power tariff led to massive protests against the Power Development Department (PDD) in Gandoh Bhalesa. People from Chilly, Gandoh,Changa,Batyas, Kallugasar, protest in Tehsil Headquarter Gandoh demanded Revoke the Electricity Charges, The protesters demanded that the increase in power tariff be revoked immediately. The protesters alleged that the PDD resorted to frequent power cuts and termed the recent hike in tariff unjustified. The PDD doesn’t even stick to their own schedule and we don’t even get more than 6 hours of power supply a day despite entire Bhalesa being metered since more than a decade now, said the protesters adding that the PDD has increased the minimum charges to Rs 370 against the earlier usage charges ranging from Rs 108 to Rs 370, “ I had an agreement of Rs 370 for around 108 units now I have to pay Rs 370 for the same consumption,” said Ramesh Kumar a resident of Chilly, Executive Engineer (PDD) Manzoor Ahmed told Kashmir Times that the step was initiated to compensate the losses and to stop the hooking. The people of the Bhalesa, however,If certain people are indulging in hooking you cannot punish all,” said one John Mohd Serpanch Changa. He said that the PDD employees are equally responsible for facilitating hooking in lieu of money. Reports of protests against the grim power scenario also poured in from across Bhalesa and its rural areas have virtually plunged into darkness,” said the residents. People Of Chilly,Changa,Gandoh also complained that the power supply in their area is erratic. There were similar complaints from other major area of Kallgusar including Nelli,Dharveri We hardly get 6 hours of daily power supply, said the residents of khara, Sheikh Manier President Serpanch Association Bhalesa threatened to block National highway if (PDD) did,t Revoke the hikes, When Contacted (SDM)Gandoh Dr Khalid Malik , He said that a Meeting was convened regarding the unscheduled power cuts in Sub-Division Gandoh, Irshad Malik AEE STD represented Exn STD Doda in the meeting besides the JEs and other field functionaries assured the Dr khalid Malik SDM Gandoh that the problem is mainly due to interruption at Khilani grid and low generation of power in Dunadi power project due to lean season of rivers in winter. However Malik assured that the process of synchronisation of Khilani and Dunadi supplies will be made effective in future. A special plan and a fixed schedule of power cuts was also provided to the sarpanches by the STD Doda in presence of Bhalessa administration he sad,
