Proud Parent moment! RJ had his 2014 4-H Awards Dinner tonight. He received his 9 year Certificate, Top Beef Record Book, Top Swine Record Book, (He made it by the skin of his teeth turning them in on the deadline date at 4:59 PM. :/ They are not his favorite part of the project.) Top Shotgun Project, Top Archery Project AND the Idaho Cattle Association Buckle! This Buckle is a once in a lifetime award. We were so surprised that he received this honor tonight. We went on their website and this is what it says the buckle is about: The belt buckle represents the well rounded child who has a heart and love for cattle. They arent given to the kid who has the ability to buy a fancy steer from a show string and win the grand champion buckle at the county fair. They are given to someone who shows the heart and perseverance and drive to be a part of the cattle business at a young age. Thank you to his leaders, the 4-H Extension Office, all the people in the Cattle Industry and his friends and family that have supported and encouraged his love of cattle. This was his third year of the market beef project and yes we have already been looking at steers for next years fair. He started with a Stocker/Feeder Calf his first year so this made is fourth year of a Beef project. His Black Angus Heifer, Moonshine, is hopefully going to calve next June/July, his Angus/Lowline cross, Elizabeef, is living the dream in the pasture being his Herd Mascot. He has two other steers that will be going to slaughter the end of the month that he is going to try to get added value by getting their hides tanned in order to sell one and their skulls preserved, because they have horns, and is hoping to sell them to western artists for them to use in their creations. This is hard for him because they were bottle calves that he purchased when they were three days old. Thanks for letting us rattle on FB Peeps. :)
