Proud mommy moment, lesson, trust your instinct! I will admit it, my son IS 1 YEAR BEHIND in writing and I did it on purpose. He is now a 3rd grade summer boy that JUST turned 8... Last year I did almost ALL of his writing for him! Hardly anyone agreed with me on this one, I was supposed to make him practice more, NOT less! But my gut said that he was not ready, I concentrated on small motor development instead and my research showed that kids did not historically start writing until around 7 or 8. SOOO... we started up with 2nd grade work this week, he quickly hammered out 3 pages in a flash and it did not lead to a mental breakdown on my part at all! Am I worried? Nope, not at all. When the mind and body are ready they are ready, no use pushing them until they are truly ready IMHO
