Proverbs 11:14 “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” It took me years of hardship and pain to learn the truths of this verse. When we do not seek council or guidance of others, we usually will fail. It is a humbling experience to come to that point in life to accept the fact that others have more knowledge and understanding in areas we do not. I have come to strongly believe in mentors. I’ve discovered the importance of finding people who are knowledgeable beyond the norm. Because of technology, I have also discovered the mentor does not have to be eyeball to eyeball. I have used John Maxwell for leadership; Peter Lord for prayer; Bill Hybels for rethinking church; Andrew Murray for devotions; Dave Ramsey for finances; Gary Ezzo for parenting; and a few others. These are godly people who have spent a lifetime learning and sharing in their area of expertise. It is to our advantage to tap into these counselors (mentors). Choose your mentors carefully. Become a devoted disciple. Most of all, seek out Jesus to be your Master Teacher on life. Become His devoted disciple.
