Proverbs 21:22 says, “A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, - TopicsExpress

Proverbs 21:22 says, “A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.” Let me repeat that again in case you might have skimmed the verse. A “wise” man scales the city of the mighty. What a statement! It’s not the stupid man, but the wise man that goes headlong into the enemy’s territory and scales the city walls. That’s preposterously amazing! It’s time that we start letting God define the rules of this drama called life and let Him define what wisdom really is. We want to grow the church through slick marketing campaigns, through “beer and brat” fests in the church parking lot, through hip worship music during the service, and the stylish implementation of Hollywood clips into our sermons. But God says, “If you want church to be as church should be, pray!” We try to secure our financial future through college degrees, through sleepless nights in business school, through hobnobbing with those who can give us a step-up, and through selling our souls to the cares of this world. But God says, “Pray!” We try to find lasting and meaningful romantic relationship by becoming obsessed with how we look, going to singles’ night at our local church, and building a superglossy profile on an online Christian dating site. But God says, “Pray!” We try to stay healthy and strong by eating organic, downing supplements, and imbibing thick pasty green drinks. But God says, “Pray!” For all matters, all issues, all problems, all complications, God has the same answer. Pray! But that just doesn’t make sense to us, does it? Admit it, it sounds “unwise.” To pray instead of solve sounds like we are doing nothing, that we are shirking a duty, laying down on the job. But to pray is not the absence of work; it’s a completely different sort of work. It’s not an abandonment of the good, old-fashioned work ethic. Rather, it’s a proper direction of it. To pray is to acknowledge that our God is “able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20). To pray is to say to God, “You can do it! And, I know You want to do it!” To pray is to say, “I know my God cares about even something as seemingly inconsequential as this. Because He wants every moment of my life tailored around His pattern and design.” To pray is to acknowledge that the heavenly reality is more real than the earthly one. To pray is an act of biblical faith. It’s a statement to the heavenlies that our personal, man-made methods for solving life are not sufficient, and that God has purchased us the ability to find our solution to every part of life in the grandness of His Son. To pray is to honor God. Prayer puts God in the position He deserves—that of King, Governor, Benign Controller, Possessor, Lord, and Master. Prayer gives God the avenue through which to change the world. He responds to prayer—that’s His pattern, and thus prayer gives God His due, His position, and ultimately His glory! To pray is the ultimate wisdom—the highest act, the most brilliant behavior, the most perfect expenditure of the human life. - Leslie ( From Eric and leslie ludy)
