Psalm 103:5—[He] satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Read todays devotion, Satisfaction and Strength, from Beside Quiet Waters, a devotion book that reminds today’s Christians that when life’s storms threaten to overcome us, the Lord promises to lead us to find peace. Are people ever really satisfied? They eat only to eat again. They reach for the world’s baubles only to want more. They experience thrills only to desire something more exhilarating. For so many, if there is any sense of satisfaction, it’s only momentary. How different with God’s children. The psalmist says that God satisfies my desires with good things. Or as it could also be stated that God fills my soul with good things. I can never be satisfied until my soul is. I can never be content until my soul is at rest. And my good Lord is the great satisfier. He offers no meaningless toys or empty pleasures for my soul. He extends instead the good things of forgiveness, peace, and heaven. For me as a child of God such treasures are not just “good things” but the only good things with which God keeps satisfying my soul. It’s not some one-shot deal with him, but daily, generous giving through his blessed Word. Filled with forgiveness for all my sins, I can fly like an eagle, regardless how grey my hair may be. Sure of his presence at my side, I can soar through the valley of trouble and over the mountain of temptation without losing a feather. Guaranteed a home with him in heaven, I can keep flapping my wings till I finally get there. To be able to fly out of the wilderness and up beyond the stars is enough to make anyone cry, “Praise the Lord, O my soul!” Prayer: Lord Jesus, keep me close to your Word with its good things for my soul so that I may fly like an eagle with your strength. Amen. From Beside Quiet Waters: Daily Devotions for a Year, by Richard E. Lauersdorf © 2005 Northwestern Publishing House. All rights reserved.
