Psalm 119 Prayer Meditation Verses 1 through 8 1 Alleluia. Blessed are the blameless in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord. 2 Blessed are those who search out his testimonies; they shall search for Him with their whole heart. 3 For those who work lawlessness do not walk in His ways. 4 You commanded us regarding Your commandments, that we should be very diligent to keep them. 5 Would that my ways were led, that I might keep Your ordinances. 6 Then I would not be ashamed when I regard all Your commandments. 7 I will give thanks to You, O Lord, with an upright heart, when I learn the judgments of Your righteousness. 8 I shall keep Your ordinances; do not utterly forsake me. Alef: Conversion 1 Blessed are the blameless in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord. I see and consider the Lord’s people, watching those who bear His name, those who love Him, obeying His law, blameless, who walk His way. There is a happiness to them, not based on circumstance. They have their trials, like others, yet joy is in their camp. 2 Blessed are those who search out his testimonies; they shall search for Him with their whole heart. Searching out His testimonies, seeking with all their heart, diligently, with action, they practice what they hear. They seem so blessed with hope that sees beyond the news of the day, a vision of the path ahead that leads beyond the grave. 3 For those who work lawlessness do not walk in His ways. Those who work iniquity, the “sinners” of the land, do not walk in the way of the Lord, nor do they understand. Their path is crooked, filled with contempt, eyes focused on self. At their funerals, who laments? What darkness lies beyond? 4 You commanded us regarding Your commandments, that we should be very diligent to keep them. God is not a “god” to mock. His commandments have a purpose. He who made the world from nothing wrote the book that rules it. We are not little gods. Who recalls what went before him? You gave us precepts—You command that we in diligence keep them. 5 Would that my ways were led, that I might keep Your ordinances. My life is pointless up ‘til now, no shape, nor goal, nor hope, a wandering from task to task no final thought to guide. Oh, how I want to be one of those whose path is directed by You, to keep Your ordinances, one and all, to walk Your way forever. 6 Then I would not be ashamed when I regard all Your commandments. I believe in judgment, both now and then, times to meet my Maker. If I regarded Your commandments, I would not be ashamed. It’s not that I’m perfect in respect to You, nor think I ever could be, but if I heed Your each command, my heart would have no shame. 7 I will give thanks to You, O Lord, with an upright heart, when I learn the judgments of Your righteousness. Your judgments seem a mystery to those who do not know them. Your ways are not our ways — that much I see clearly. When once I learn Your judgments, disciplined by Your thought, then, grounded in uprightness, my heart will give You thanks. 8 I shall keep Your ordinances; do not utterly forsake me. This day I have decided— I’ve weighed the pros and cons— I’m set to keep Your statutes. My heart can feel a change. But wait! What makes me think I’m able? I’ve never succeeded before. Help me learn Your law, my Lord. Never leave me alone. ……….
