Psalm 40:8 “I delight to do Your will, O my God...” John 15:11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” Spiritual growth will bring you to perfect joy in the Lord. It will bring you to that inner desire of wanting to do nothing else than the Lord’s will. His life becomes your fulfilment. The big secret of life is to live in harmony with our Creator. We are the single biggest hindrance in our lives. Arrogance and self-importance causes us to consider only ourselves. Our achievements, our possessions, our children, even our saintliness, our humility and our work for the Lord could be potential stumbling blocks. But perfect joy in the Lord is outside of ourselves. We should not pray to the Lord. “Give me... give me...” It should rather be, “Take the “me” away and let Christ live.” Depression and arrogance are thought processes focused on the self. We should look away from the self and focus on the Lord, abiding by His will, taking joy in Him (John 15:10). The only way to let rivers of living water flow to the people around us, is to give ourselves up and give the Lord the first place in our lives. We have to stop thinking of ourselves: I am too shy, or I am not capable of speaking to others, or I am not a trained preacher or I am not holy enough. Stand back and let Jesus take over. Let the joy of the Lord fill your life!
