Psalm 50:13-15 13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood - TopicsExpress

Psalm 50:13-15 13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats? 14 Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and perform your vows to the Most High, 15 and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me. How often we think we have something we can do for God. Like the ancients we haughtily place a bull upon the alter as if doing what God commands is somehow commendable. Yet weve so often forgotten in the midst of our service our NEED. The reason for the flesh of bulls and the blood of goats was not the hunger or need in God. Rather the reason for the sacrifice was to show us our need of Him. It was because of the filth in us that Gods Justice demands a sacrifice. In our desperate need of redemption God gives a remedy to span the everlasting gap between His Holiness and our devastating unworthiness. Some took the sacrifice of an animal and thought this alone was enough. The spilling of blood on an alter, the burning of flesh, could not only erase past sin but free them to transgress all the more. The price of redemption made trivial by the darkness of human nature. God desires offerings to be made with humble thanksgiving. He desires us to realize the depth of our sin and offer our service thankful for the price He paid to redeem us. He desires us to live our lives ever aware of His presence around us. We are redeemed to be His possession and fulfill His purpose. Not to claim Him, or His righteousness, as our possession used as a license or freedom to transgress. Rather, His righteousness is an undeserved blessing which demands our devotion and sacrifice to Him as a reasonable service (Romans 12:1). We are to offer our bodies, our lives, even our all as a sacrifice because we owe Him that and all the more.
