Psalm 70 1 Please, God, rescue me! Come quickly, Lord, and help me. 2 May those who try to kill me be humiliated and put to shame. May those who take delight in my trouble be turned back in disgrace. 3 Let them be horrified by their shame, for they said, “Aha! We’ve got him now!” 4 But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, “God is great!” 5 But as for me, I am poor and needy; please hurry to my aid, O God. You are my helper and my savior; O Lord, do not delay. In chapter 70 in the book of Psalms, the psalmist is crying out to God for help. Some people are seeking to do him great harm. The psalmist places his petitions with the Lord. He asks that the people who are trying to do him harm would be humiliated and put to shame. He also speaks of those who are delighted by the problems he is having. It is sad when people are happy about our problems. It is particularly egregious when the people who are delighted by our trouble reside in the household of faith, those who profess to be believers in Christ. As believers, are any of us comfortable feeling this way because we believe that a person deserves it? Who are we to judge another. If God were to shine a spotlight on our lives, what would we deserve? None of us deserves salvation, yet Jesus gave his precious blood on the cross for us so that we may receive the gitf of salvation. We are never to delight in the difficulties of others. We are not to hate others. Sometimes we need help to do this so we ask God to see a person with his spiritual eyes or we ask God to remind us that we too were saved by the blood of Christ. None of us were good enough to be saved. God is exceptionally loving and provided a way for us to be with him despite our shortcomings. Proverbs 17:13 If you repay good with evil, evil will never leave your house. Proverbs 24:17-18 Don’t rejoice when your enemies fall; don’t be happy when they stumble. 18 For the Lord will be displeased with you and will turn his anger away from them. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance
