Psalm, The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. This may - TopicsExpress

Psalm, The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. This may seem like a simple circular statement. An atheist sees this as the Bible is in so many words telling those that read it that they are wise and any that dont believe it are fools. If that is the way you have understood this I would like to encourage you to rethink your understanding of it. I think it is one of the more profound thing ever written. So why do I think, The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. is so deep? Philosophers are in agreement that if there is no God there can be no empirical right or wrong. There is only what we like and dont like. 3000 years ago this idea was already understood and put in to Psalms. If there is no empirical truth anything goes. It is only a fool that says there is no truth. I can do whatever I want. Much more than just believing in God it means believing in truth. It means believing that there are things that are always bad. Atheist Friedrich Nietzsche said, There are no eternal facts, as there are no absolute truths. Sadly this is seen as wisdom on college campuses today. Every truth is only a truth to that individual. The importance of holding that view is it removes all accountability. You only have to be true to self but that is effectively meaningless. It makes for moral anarchy. Once the idea of empirical truths are removed there is no reason to care for the sick or the weak. Hitler got much of his philosophy from Nietzsche. If you ever find yourself having a visceral response and saying that something is wrong you end up at a philosophical fork in the road. Either you should not have felt what you felt because there is no wrong and you can keep your Atheism or it was OK to feel that something was wrong but that means there must be a God. If you do not accept that dichotomy does not make it not so. It just means you have not thought deeply about it. Logically I can not be wrong. If there is no God than there is no empirical truth which means you can not say there is no God.
