Psalms 1:1 GODLY COUNSEL Psalm 1:1a “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly…”. Wise counsel can only be gotten from people who truly know God. Experience can produce knowledge of the ways of the world, but even this counsel based on worldly “experience” must be placed under the search light of the word of God. Many people have been led astray by bad counsel, the band wagon counsel of “everybody’s doing it”, “the world has changed, we’re no longer in the bible days” etc. God’s standards will never change, and neither should they be compromised. Seek counsel from people whose lives mirror God’s word and who will always look you in the eye and tell you the truth without mincing words. Dig Deeper: Number 14:3-9; Nehemiah 2:17; Philippians 3:12-14 Think about it: Are your decisions usually based on Godly principles or on “common sense” values that contradict God’s word? Compile a list of three important (life changing) and mundane decisions each and check your basis for making these decisions. Make up your mind not to live your daily life on your own but to seek God’s counsel from the Holy Spirit and godly people whose judgment you can trust. Speak to the Lord: Ask God to give a discerning spirit to recognise Godly counsel and ask for the grace to follow through when God is leading you.
