Psychedelic A state of mass confusion Optical Illusion What’s going on with me? Just about to graduate from college PhD In Psychology Family historian Valedictorian Though the vision tarried In two weeks I’m finally getting married Just a little stressed White dress Long train Insane All the while I could feel the psych ward calling me Is this something that runs in my family? I vaguely remember my mother’s sister Betty-Ann She would sit around Constantly counting her fingers on one hand As a child I never did quite understand While in the supermarket holding two sauces Debating on my choices I heard voices LSD Never had any inside of me Placing the jars back I quickly went to my car Anxiety attack Holding my arms Finally calm In the stillness I wondered if I had some form of mental illness Giggled Silliness Laughter interrupted Seriousness erupted I have to work on this myself Can’t let anyone know I’m in need of help Going to take it to God in prayer Church She’s soon to be a psychiatrist Taboo can’t take it there Pillow Smother Have to do my best to hide it from my mother And my future husband What would he do if he knew Would he stay Maybe Mind lazy Doubt it If he thought that I was crazy Blackouts Massive amount of shouts Arguing at him for no reason When all he was doing was being a good man No treason On my wedding day I blew a gasket Ratchet The only place I could see my future husband was lying in a casket Arrested Case Basket Wedding dress traded in for a straight jacket He refused to bury the hatchet Life under lock and key No idea when it will be set free No one has immunity Unfortunately we don’t talk about mental illness In the African American community If you need help Seize the opportunity It’s been going on since the beginning of time Undermine Relic Misconception Psychedelic An excerpt from Unprecedented Melodious Words of Ajee Da Poet Vol. 2 © 2014 Shelley Fowler
